As a freelancer, I was often approached by international organizations, foundations and NGOs to create videos and short films that highlighted their work throughout West and Central Africa. These are a few examples.

MSI Ladies in Burkina Faso

For this project, I followed two midwives through rural Burkina Faso as they provided birth control and prenatal care services with the support of Marie Stopes International. This video is a good example of my ability to film with a drone.

The News… Rapped

In one of my many collaborations with Open Society Initiative for West Africa (an Open Society Foundations member organization), I got to hang out with two Senegalese celebrities as they rapped the news — with some editorializing — to the nation’s youth.

A race against time to control measles in Guinea

When a measles epidemic broke out in the Forest Region of Guinea, ALIMA and its partners reacted quickly to treat the patients and vaccinate the most vulnerable: children. This video is a good example of my ability to film with a drone.

The Blue Economy in Cabo Verde

The far-flung archipelago nation of Cabo Verde relies on the ocean for its economic subsistence and growth, and they’re thinking long-term. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN sent me island-hopping to find out how people in the fishing and tourism sectors are managing aquatic resources. This video is a good example of my ability to film with a drone.

Abandoning FGM

In Guinea-Bissau, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) affects 45% of women aged 15-49 years. Plan International worked with ex-practitioners, women who themselves once earned a living by performing FGM on young girls, who have since abandoned the practice and are now actively campaigning for its eradication.

Abuse of people with disabilities in Ghana

In one of the most logistically and emotionally taxing projects I’ve ever undertaken, Human Rights Watch sent me to visit several “prayer camps” in Ghana where physically and mentally disabled patients are chained, starved and abused as part of their treatment.

Crisis in the Sahel: Mali and Niger

Girls are the most vulnerable people throughout the Sahel, where early and forced marriage is pervasive, and they are at even greater risk in times of crisis. Plan International sent me on a fact-finding mission to Mali and Niger to learn more from those who live this reality.

Crisis in the Sahel: Northern Mali

After an occupation by armed groups was disrupted by French and Malian forces, local populations were left to deal with the aftermath in the north of the country. In this part of my fact-finding mission with Plan, I spoke to several girls who were targeted by the insurgency to find out what kind of support they needed going forward.
